| It was on Monday morning, July 21, 2008, around 6:00 a.m. when life in and around the Quad Cities area was to be totally "uprooted". Strong, living trees were torn up from their roots, power lines were knocked to the ground and 130,000 residents in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas lost power. A severe thunder storm came through the Quad Cities and power was knocked out almost everywhere and would not be restored for 3 to 7 days. One wind gust in Moline, Illinois, was clocked at 94 mph. Almost all the stores and other businesses in Moline had lost power and it was strange to see. When the power goes out it is a reminder just how dependent on our modern technology and conveniences we have become. It should also be a reminder how quickly and dramatically our easy and comfortable world can be turned upside down by a disaster.
Derechos are windstorms generally associated with thunderstorms that assume a curved, or bowed shape, producing waves of winds with deadly force! | |

| The Detroit area last year had Derecho winds come thru. Just missed our area. But I never heard of it before last year. Scary. Love how you did the background of your layout! Totally works with the pictures! - kacarr61 wrote:

|  43 weekly layouts! Can you believe this? Plus I have done 5 so far on the other SYAO challenge.  . Today I used 3+ buttons, border punch, 5+ patterned papers, rubon, & twine to scrap my grandson learning to ride a scooter.  Now to clean this mess of a desk off while we wait for #44  | |
